Nisutlin Bay Bridge
The Nisutlin Bay Bridge replacement project in Teslin is progressing steadily and is slated for completion by spring 2026. This initiative marks the largest capital infrastructure project in Yukon’s history, with a budget of approximately CAD $160 million.
The new bridge will replace the aging 1956 structure, enhancing safety and accommodating increased traffic volumes. Key features of the new design include:
- Dimensions: A two-lane bridge measuring 48 meters in length and 13.4 meters in width.
- Surface: A concrete deck overlaid with asphalt.
- Pedestrian and Cyclist Access: A wide shoulder for cyclists and an LED-lit sidewalk for pedestrians.
- Underpass: A walkway beneath the bridge to facilitate safe crossing for snowmobiles and pedestrians.
Construction Progress
As of May 2025, the Nisutlin Bay Bridge replacement project in Teslin is progressing steadily. Construction began in 2022, and the new bridge is expected to open to traffic in fall 2025, with full completion anticipated by spring 2026. This project, the largest capital infrastructure endeavor in Yukon’s history, is being executed by Graham Infrastructure LP under a contract valued at approximately CAD $183.8 million, following a change order to accommodate environmental compliance and scheduling adjustments.
Community Involvement
The project was intended to be a collaborative effort between the Government of Yukon and the Teslin Tlingit Council, aiming to maximize benefits for local citizens and businesses through job creation and contracting opportunities. Concerns have been raised by TTC that local participation in this project has not been fully realized, and that further dialogue is needed to ensure local contractors and workers can capitalize on projects of this nature now and in the future.
Teslin Environmental Services, a subsidiary of Deisleen Development Corporation, is actively involved in the project by providing environmental monitoring support services.
