(TESLIN, YUKON) Deisleen Development Corporation (DDC) is proud to launch the Community Pathways Initiative (CPI), a new skills development and wellness program dedicated to supporting Teslin community members who wish to enter or re-enter the workforce.
Working with partners, CPI projects involve the design and advancement of small-scale infrastructure and community development projects that bring together knowledge keepers, professionals and community members of all ages who are eager to develop a pathway to personal growth and readiness for employment opportunities.
The focus of CPI projects will be on people, knowledge sharing and forward thinking and will emphasize the development of life skills, jobs skills and professional skills, often in an outdoor classroom setting.
In conjunction with each project, participants will begin working on a one-year plan with DDC that includes both wellness and workforce readiness objectives for the year ahead. The Community Pathways Plan is an opportunity for DDC and partners to support a pathway to entering or re-entering the workforce.
Through CPI Projects, DDC is working to foster participation in the economy by restoring emphasis on teaching and learning, and is investing in personal growth as a way to build community strength.
CPI 2026 PILOT PROJECT – TESLIN COMMUNITY CABIN PROJECT AT BROOKS BROOK
As a CPI pilot project, the Teslin Community Cabin Project at Brooks Brook is dedicated to supporting men seeking a pathway to enter or re-enter the workforce. Work will commence at Brooks Brook on July 13 and the team will learn about wood processing, small cabin design and construction, various tools and safety-related topics, while also connecting with subject matter experts who can help advance their wellness and skills development objectives.
The Teslin Community Cabin Project is inspired by a similar project that was undertaken by Carcross Tagish First Nation in 2016.
The Sr. Instructors (Elders), Project Supervisor (Red Seal Journeyman), Project Instructors, Crewleader, Crewmembers and youth will work for one month at Brooks Brook building four small cabins (8×12 feet) that can be used by the community.
Upon completion, the cabins will be moved to various locations in Teslin or on the land. During the construction of the cabins, DDC will welcome guest speakers, health and wellness advisors and partners and of course our elders to help foster personal growth, knowledge sharing, forward thinking and the advancement of CPI objectives related to life skills, job skills and professional skills development.
This year’s Teslin Community Cabin Project will serve as a pilot to help DDC and partners fully understand the range of supports and services needed for CPI projects to achieve meaningful and measurable results at the community level.
